Photographer Review
A. Ansel Adams
B. Ansel Adams is most widely known for his black and white landscape photos, especially those of Yosemite National Park. Nature and wilderness preservation are his primary inspirations for his work. He used large formate cameras for their resolution and clarity. Adams developed the Zone system along with Fred Archer as a way to determine proper exposure and adjust the contrast of the final print.
C. For me, Adams' work elicits a sense of serenity. His photographs remind me of a time when everything was centered around nature and not technology. The black and white of the photos makes them feel older than they are. I like his photographs because his work gives me the opportunity to experience Yosemite with him.
A. Diane Arbus
B. Diane Arbus is famous for black and white square photographs of deviant or marginal people. Her photographs reveal the flaws in people and highlighted the difference between what people want to see and what they actually see. Arbus focused on undermined people like dwarfs, giants, transgender, nudist, and circus performers. She was known as the "photographer of freaks".
C. I think her work definitely captures real people that most photographers avoid. While most photographers aim to capture beauty, it's refreshing that she embraces imperfections and flaws in people. Her work can be slightly hauntingly creepy in the way she photographs people. She focuses on a group of people usually ignored by the masses.

Richard Avedon
B. Richard Avedon was a fashion and portrait photographer. His work has been featured in Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, and Life magazines. He also became the first staff photographer for The New Yorker. Avedon also photographed social issues such as the Civil Rights Movement, protesters of the Vietnam War, and the fall of the Berlin Wall.
C. I like how although Avedon photographs celebrities, he captures them in a raw, stripped down manner. For example, the portrait of Marilyn Monroe shows a different side of her, other than her widely know public persona. His photographs represent the culture of America at the time. I like how all his photos are done in black and white because he can capture so much emotion in these two basic colors.
